New $100,000 H-1B fee only for new applicants, US official says

(Bloomberg) — The Trump administration’s new $100,000 application fee for the widely used H-1B visa program will only apply to new visas, the White House said Saturday.

The fee will not apply for those who already hold or are renewing their H-1B visas, a White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Axios first reported the detail.

People who were selected in this year’s H-1B lottery and whose visas will become effective on Oct. 1 would not have to pay this fee.

The visas are highly coveted by some of America’s largest companies seeking to bring in skilled workers from abroad.
